As a Bar Assistant you will work closely with the Bar Manager and Front of House team to provide the highest levels of customer service, demonstrating exceptional knowledge of the drinks list and menus. You will provide support to the Sommeliers and Bar Manager to prepare hot and cold beverages, stock the bar, clean the bar area, and execute the drinks service to a standard that exceeds customer expectations.

Customer Service

  • Have a full and comprehensive knowledge of the drinks list and menus to expertly advise customers.
  • Assist in the set-up, restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies ready for service.
  • Assist in the preparation of all drinks orders – alcoholic, non-alcoholic, tea/coffee.
  • Serve drinks in a timely way in line with agreed service standards.
  • Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience.
  • Work closely with the FOH staff to ensure that dining details are handled correctly.
  • Ensure all feedback from diners is passed on to management and Petersham Cellar to enable the team to continually strive to provide the best possible offering to diners.
  • Identify opportunities for improving customer service, evolving drinks lists and maximising sales revenue.
  • Assist FOH with restaurant service, leading by example, providing an amazing dining experience for our customers that is unrivalled by our competitors.

Operations

  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the Restaurant by following cleaning routines and through ongoing diligence during the shift.
  • Keep your workstation sufficiently stocked and organised throughout the day with all items needed for service.
  • Keep the restaurant/workstation clean and tidy at all times.
  • It is particularly important that the restaurant and all equipment are left clean at the end of each shift.
  • Keep wine cellar and storerooms tidy and in order.
  • Make sure new deliveries are stored immediately and update on the wine/beverages and inventory list.
  • Supervised by the Bar Manager, assist in daily and monthly stock control, ensuring all relevant inventories are kept up-to-date.
  • Ensure all wastage is recorded correctly.

  • Represent the company’s high standards of personal presentation and behaviour at all times during a shift.
  • Adhere to company dress code, attendance and timekeeping standards.
  • Work as part of a team by sharing duties and demonstrating flexibility with regard to hours and days of work.
  • Maintain the standards and culture of the team by setting an example to new members of staff and assisting in their induction training when required.
  • Fully understand the restaurant’s ethos.
  • Bring a positive attitude to teamwork, contributing to the smooth running of the restaurant and interacting productively with other departments.
