Technician/Trainer – Catering & Hospitality

Salary: £25,407 per annum

Hours: 25 hours per week – Monday to Friday 9:30am to 2:30pm

Contract: Permanent

Contract Type: Term Time Only

Location: Peterborough

In this busy and exciting role, you will support the delivery of outstanding practical learning experiences for students studying hospitality and catering programmes. Working within the College's catering and Pantry environments, you will help learners develop the skills, confidence and industry knowledge required for future success.

You will work closely with teaching staff to facilitate practical sessions, maintain specialist equipment and resources, and ensure a safe, organised and professional working environment. Your contribution will play a vital role in helping students gain valuable hands-on experience while developing industry-standard practices.

This is a varied and rewarding position that combines technical expertise, learner support and practical training, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to students' educational journeys while supporting the success of the wider faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support teaching staff in delivering practical hospitality and catering activities.
• Assist learners during vocational and practical training sessions.
• Supervise learners and ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
• Maintain, inspect and undertake minor repairs to specialist equipment.
• Keep workshops and practical training areas clean, safe and organised.
• Monitor stock levels and maintain accurate inventories of equipment and materials.
• Participate in risk assessments and safe working practices.
• Support staff and students in the use of specialist catering equipment.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
• Undertake first aid duties and coordinate maintenance repairs when required.
• What we're looking for:

We are seeking a motivated and practical individual with experience within the hospitality industry and a passion for supporting others to develop their skills. You will have excellent organisational skills, a strong awareness of health and safety requirements and the ability to maintain high standards within a busy working environment.

The successful candidate will be confident working with young people, supporting practical learning activities and building positive relationships with staff, students and external stakeholders. You will demonstrate a proactive, professional approach, strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

A good standard of education, including Level 2 English and Maths, is essential. Industry experience within hospitality is required, while experience of training, teaching or working within an educational setting would be advantageous. A teaching qualification or relevant vocational qualification would also be beneficial.
