Make a direct, positive impact on students' lives by fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive college environment where every young person can thrive! In this busy and exciting role, you will engage proactively with students to support their safeguarding, mental health, wellbeing, and overall college experience. You will work as part of the Student Wellbeing and Engagement team, building positive relationships, offering person-centred support, and collaborating closely with curriculum staff and external agencies to ensure vulnerable students achieve their best potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build positive relationships with students to enhance their personal and social education.
- Respond immediately to incidents and manage crisis situations using restorative and de-escalation techniques.
- Contribute to student voice, weekly enrichment programs, and key wellbeing initiatives.
- Manage a student safeguarding caseload and participate in the weekly duty rota.
- Conduct mental health assessments and create self-harm/suicide safety plans and risk assessments.
- Support multi-agency meetings, including Child Protection, Children in Need, and PEP reviews.
- Provide dedicated mentoring and advocacy for vulnerable, at-risk, and Care Leaver students.
- Assist with student enrolment, inductions, open events, and campus safety presence.
- Facilitate group support sessions, including mental health drop-ins and restorative groups.
- Share necessary attendance and monitoring reports with external partners and Virtual Schools.
What we're looking for:
We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and resilient professional with relevant qualifications in Youth Work/Mentoring (Level 3 equivalent), Safeguarding, and Mental Health First Aid (or a commitment to achieve them). You should have a proven track record of supporting vulnerable young people, managing challenging behaviours, conducting risk assessments, and multi-agency working. Strong communication, non-judgmental listening, and IT skills are essential, alongside a genuine passion for advocating for students' welfare.
