Are you an experienced engineer or skilled tradesperson ready for a new challenge? Have you ever thought about passing on your knowledge and experience to the next generation?

At Inspire Education Group (IEG), you don’t need to be an experienced teacher to take the next step. We’re looking for people with strong engineering industry experience who are passionate about their trade and want to help others develop their skills. We can support you to gain your teaching qualification while you build your career in education.

About the role

You’ll teach and support students across Level 1 to Level 4 (HND) engineering courses, sharing your practical knowledge and helping learners prepare for their future careers.

You’ll be supported to develop your teaching skills, with opportunities to learn how to plan lessons, assess progress and create an engaging learning environment. Your industry experience will be invaluable in helping students understand how engineering works in the real world.

Your responsibilities will include:

Sharing your engineering knowledge and practical skills with students.

Delivering engaging sessions that bring industry practice to life.

Supporting learners to develop their confidence, technical ability and employability.

Assessing student work and providing feedback to help them improve.

Helping students set targets and achieve their learning goals.

Contributing to course development and building links with employers.

Promoting safe working practices and maintaining a positive learning environment.

About you

You could be working in engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, fabrication, electrical or mechanical engineering, or another relevant technical trade. What matters most is your industry knowledge, practical experience and enthusiasm for helping others learn.

We’re looking for someone who:

Has recent, relevant experience working in engineering or a related trade.

Holds a relevant Level 3 or 4 qualification, HND, degree or professional industry qualification.

Has at least Level 2 English and maths.

Is confident sharing practical knowledge and explaining technical skills to others.

Has good communication and organisational skills.

Is keen to develop new skills and work towards a teaching qualification, with support from IEG.

Is committed to student success, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health and safety.

Previous teaching experience is not essential. If you have the right industry background and a genuine interest in helping others succeed, we’ll support you to develop your teaching skills.

Why make the move into teaching?

Teaching offers the opportunity to use your industry experience in a new way, make a real difference to people’s futures and help address the skills needed by the engineering sector.

At IEG, we’ll support your transition into education, including support towards gaining a teaching qualification. You’ll have the opportunity to continue developing professionally while sharing your experience with the next generation of engineers.

Why work for IEG?

  • Generous Leave: Up to 50 days of annual leave, including Bank Holidays and Christmas close. (pro-rata for part-time staff)
  • Health and Wellbeing: Benefit from a gym, free on-site parking, access to employee assistance programme and a friendly team atmosphere
  • Professional Development: Ongoing training and development opportunities, including sponsorship for HE/professional qualifications
  • Employee Benefits and Rewards: Vivup employee benefits, including lifestyle savings, eligibility to apply for a Blue Light Card, providing access to a wide range of national discounts

IEG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and any vulnerable groups within the college community and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to a thorough vetting process which includes an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
