We are looking for an experienced and confident Interim Nursery Manager to lead our nursery for a period of up to three months.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can quickly step into a leadership role, provide stability and direction to the nursery team, and ensure children continue to receive a high standard of care, education and support.

As Interim Nursery Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the nursery, ensuring that the setting operates safely, effectively and in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, safeguarding requirements and relevant legislation.

The role

You will provide strong leadership to the nursery team and take responsibility for the overall quality of care and education provided to children aged 0–5.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, supporting and motivating the nursery team to maintain high standards of care and education.
  • Ensuring the nursery operates in accordance with current legislation, EYFS requirements and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintaining a safe, positive and nurturing environment for children, staff and families.
  • Taking responsibility for safeguarding and child protection, ensuring concerns are identified and managed appropriately.
  • Managing risk assessments and responding promptly to any risks that could affect the safe and effective operation of the nursery.
  • Supporting staff through supervision, performance management, training, attendance management and other people-related matters.
  • Managing the nursery's day-to-day administration and operational requirements.
  • Working closely with parents, carers and external professionals and agencies where required.
  • Monitoring occupancy and supporting the nursery to operate effectively and maximise capacity and income.
  • Managing budgets and ensuring expenditure remains within agreed targets.
  • Building positive working relationships across the wider organisation.
  • Ensuring the nursery continues to provide an inclusive environment that recognises and respects the individual needs of children, families and colleagues.

About you

We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and provide confident leadership during this interim period.

You will ideally have:

  • A Level 3 childcare qualification or equivalent.
  • Significant experience working with children aged 0–5.
  • Experience of leading a nursery team, deputising for a Nursery Manager or managing a room.
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and child development .
  • Experience of safeguarding, risk assessment and promoting children's welfare.
  • Experience of line management, including recruitment, appraisals, attendance and performance management.
  • Experience of working with parents, external agencies and other professionals.
  • Experience of managing budgets and day-to-day nursery operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The confidence to make sound decisions and deal with issues independently.
  • A calm, organised and flexible approach, with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
  • A genuine commitment to providing high-quality care and education for children.

A Level 5 childcare or management qualification would be desirable, as would experience of managing a nursery setting.
