Families are often described as the most under-utilised resource in child welfare. In Peterborough ‘being family led\’ is seen as an imperative for children. Evidence is clear that better plans and outcomes are achieved for all when families are enabled to come together and develop plans for their children.

We are developing an overall culture of family group decision making which is being supported by a significant investment in an expanded family group conferencing service.

The vision for Peterborough is to expand our existing FGC Service and build on the recommendations arising from the current National Reforms and the key positive messages from Foundations. We are developing an implementation plan involving arrange of partners and with support from Leeds Relational Practice Centre.

We are seeking a team of family group conference co-ordinators.

The family group conference co-ordinators will facilitate individual FGCs, ensuring appropriate preparation of family and professional and facilitating any face-to-face meetings at a time and venue that is determined by the family. The co-ordinators will ensure that that the family plan is presented to the professional network.

Recruitment will involve short listed candidates being invited to an assessment centre with successful candidates from the assessment centre being invited to then attend a formal interview. The assessment centre and formal interviews will take place during September/October – Dates will be confirmed with the successful shortlisted candidates

You are someone who believes in the power of families to make lasting, meaningful decisions for their children. You bring warmth, empathy, and a deep respect for the lived experiences of children and families. You understand that every family is unique, and you are committed to working in a way that is inclusive, empowering, and strengths-based.

You will have experience of working with children and families and the ability to understand and manage complex family dynamics. You are confident in supporting families to find their own solutions, even in challenging circumstances. Your approach is child-centred, and you are skilled at ensuring that the child\’s voice is heard and respected throughout the Family Group Conference process.

You are a creative and reflective practitioner, able to develop innovative ways to support participation from all parties. You are calm and confident when mediating during periods of conflict, and you bring clarity and compassion to emotionally charged situations.

You will need excellent time management and organisational skills to manage your own workload effectively. Your communication skills—both written and verbal—are outstanding, and you are comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with professionals and families.

Flexibility is essential. You understand that families\’ needs don\’t always fit into a 9–5 schedule, and you are willing to work evenings and travel across and beyond Peterborough to meet families where they are. You are confident working from a variety of locations and can travel independently of public transport.
