Your Impact

This is more than just a legal advisory role – it\’s an opportunity to build something from the ground up. As our first dedicated Employment Lawyer, you\’ll have the unique chance to:

  • Shape practice from day one – establish processes, policies, and best practices that will define how the Council approaches employment law

What You\’ll Do

  • Provide authoritative legal advice on the full spectrum of employment law matters, from day-to-day queries to complex tribunal cases
  • Represent the Council at Employment Tribunals and employment-related hearings
  • Partner with HR teams to develop policies, procedures, and training that minimize legal risk
  • Draft and review employment contracts, policies, and settlement agreements
  • Lead on complex employment investigations and disciplinary matters
  • Advise on TUPE transfers, restructures, and organizational change
  • Stay ahead of legislative changes and their impact on Council operations

What We\’re Looking For

  • Qualified Solicitor with current practicing certificate, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx
  • Substantial experience in employment law with a proven track record of tribunal representation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear, practical advice to non-legal colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills – you\’ll be presenting to senior officers, elected members, and external stakeholders
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to see the bigger picture and influence policy development
