Information About The Post:
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as outstanding in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College. We seek an enthusiastic Teacher of Chemistry & Applied Science to join our team of 14 teachers and technicians working with more than 750 students studying Chemistry A level, following the OCR A specification. Chemistry is housed, with Biology and Environmental Science, in a purpose-built Science Centre.
The person appointed to this post should be a graduate of Chemistry or a closely allied subject. Candidates must be capable of competently teaching Chemistry A level but we would also welcome applications from candidates who have not had the opportunity to teach A level so far in their career. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach on the BTEC Applied Science course; an ability to contribute to the physics element as well as the chemistry topics on that course would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will be highly skilled and enthusiastic, with the ability to deliver excellent, effective subject lessons and will model a friendly, team centred approach whilst being committed to working in pursuit of success for our students and department, and the College itself. We welcome applications from newly qualified or experienced teachers. Can you please specify in your application your preference for full or part time work.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College; we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is Counting in ones which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, 5 days of Christmas treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
Safeguarding: We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
