Part-time Laboratory Processor (Loughborough) – 22.5 hours per week | Loughborough | £24,570 pro rata salary

The Role

Award-winning animal charity, Pet Blood Bank UK (PBB), is recruiting for the position of Laboratory Processor. This is a part-time role, working 22.5 hours per week over three days: Sunday, Monday, and alternating Fridays or Wednesdays (6am - 2pm), with the possibility of additional shifts to cover holidays and absences. This is a permanent contract and an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience in a meaningful and compassionate animal welfare setting.

Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a blood bank service for all vets across the UK. As part of our charitable remit, our aim is to advance animal health and welfare and to relieve suffering by providing quick and convenient access to blood. Every unit of blood helps save up to four other lives, saving thousands of lives every year.

What you’ll do

  • Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you’ll ensure whole blood is processed, labelled and stored within the required timescales in line with our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Maintain accurate records for processing, quality control, and stock management.
  • Ensure all blood screening, quarantine and release procedures and quality control measures are followed and recorded in line with SOP.
  • Rotate blood stocks to minimise wastage.
  • Monitor and maintain consumables stock levels.
  • Maintain all laboratory equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
  • Support research and development projects.
  • Participate in our out of hours service and distribute blood products as set out in our SOPs.

We’re looking for someone with strong organisational skills and who is comfortable working on their own as well as being part of a larger team. As this role involves updating and maintaining records, we require someone who is computer literate. In addition to this we’re seeking someone who is:

Further details

This is a part-time role working approximately 12 shifts per month, primarily on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays/Fridays with occasional shifts offered on Tuesday and Thursday to cover holidays and absences. Overtime may also be possible, including assisting with holiday cover for our out of hours blood distribution service.
