Perth Playhouse is looking for an experienced and passionate

General Manager to lead our team and drive the continued success of one of Scotland's most iconic independent cinemas.

This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for the overall performance of the cinema.

You will be accountable for growing revenue, managing costs, developing and inspiring your team, and delivering an exceptional customer experience across every aspect of the business.

As General Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the cinema while working closely with the wider business to deliver commercial objectives, operational excellence, and community engagement initiatives.

You will be a confident decision-maker, capable of working independently, leading by example, and creating a positive and high-performing culture.

The cinema operates across a varied trading schedule, including evenings, weekends, and peak holiday periods, and flexibility around working hours is essential.

As General Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Leading the overall operation of Perth Playhouse, ensuring a safe, efficient, and commercially successful business.
  • Delivering outstanding customer service and creating memorable cinema experiences for all guests.
  • Driving admissions, retail and food & beverage sales through effective commercial planning and local initiatives.
  • Taking ownership of the cinema's profit and loss performance, identifying opportunities to increase revenue and control costs.
  • Recruiting, developing, motivating, and managing a high-performing team.
  • Maintaining exceptional operational standards, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, health & safety requirements, and brand standards.
  • Developing and delivering local business and marketing plans aligned with regional and company objectives.
  • Building strong relationships with local partners, businesses, community groups, and film distributors to maximise the cinema's presence within the local area.
  • Monitoring performance through reporting and analysis, implementing action plans to achieve key business targets.
  • Ensuring all site audits, compliance checks, and operational standards are consistently achieved.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Proven management experience within cinema, hospitality, leisure, retail, or a customer-focused environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, delivering sales growth, and controlling costs.
  • Demonstrable ownership of profit and loss performance and key business metrics.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing teams to achieve high levels of engagement and performance.
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating outstanding guest experiences.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Cinema industry experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong transferable leadership and commercial skills.
