Perth & Kinross Council aims to provide the residents of Perth & Kinross area with a reliable refuse collection service. As a Refuse Collection Loader, you will provide an invaluable service to the residents of the Perth & Kinross area, ensuring that their refuse is collected on a regular basis.

Your role will require you to collect waste and load it into a refuse collection vehicle on a specified route. You will uplift various types of waste, assist the drivers with the manoeuvring of the vehicle, and perform any other tasks required by the service. You will be required to comply with the safe systems of work for refuse collection.

This role operates on a shift pattern, with the contracted shift pattern for this post being Friday to Monday (36hrs). To comply with all Road Transport Regulations and provide a continuous service 7 days a week, you may be required to work weekdays. You will also be expected to be available to work on a standby basis, which includes working outside of your normal hours and being part of a standby rota. Standby works are usually planned in advance but may also be unforeseeable, requiring you to be available at short notice.

This is an opportunity for you to provide a vital service to the community by ensuring that all waste is removed, leaving a clean and tidy environment. You will have contact with members of the public and will act as a representative of the Council.

You will have the opportunity to participate in on-the-job training, and your continuous development will be encouraged and supported throughout your career with Perth & Kinross Council.

The Individual

To be successful in this role, you will be physically fit and prepared to walk 20 miles per day carrying heavy loads over rough ground in all weathers. You will have a strong constitution regarding adverse odours and must be prepared to work overtime, as the route will require completion every day.
