We currently have the following opportunity: Technician - PKC13745 £38,310 - £42,252 Ruthvenfield Depot, Inveralmond, Perth.

Perth & Kinross Council are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Road Maintenance Partnership’s Capital Roads Design Team, delivering a wide range of road maintenance improvement projects. This role involves close collaboration with the wider team, Assistant Road Maintenance Officers, and partners Tayside Contracts. The successful candidate will be based at Ruthvenfield Depot, Inveralmond, Perth. The post involves a mixture of office and site work. Office attendance will be required to ensure effective knowledge sharing across the team.

As a technician you would be responsible for designing and implementing road maintenance projects such as carriageway and footway resurfacing, drainage improvements, and minor embankment/retaining wall works. Carrying out site surveys/investigations/inspections and assist in assessing requests and priorities for measures related to maintenance of the road network. The person will be responsible for managing their project programme and providing feedback to other stakeholders and respond to Councillor and public enquiries. There is also an opportunity to participate in the year-round road standby rota, supporting winter service preparation and reactive flood resilience across the Perth & Kinross Council area. Participation in the formal standby rota is optional. Additional opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the wider partnership and roads team may arise depending on project needs.

Applicants must hold an HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Experience with AutoCAD and familiarity with surveying equipment is preferred, although training will be provided.

Skills & Experience Required

Candidates require to be skilled individuals who can demonstrate initiative and take responsibility for decisions to achieve desired results. The post primarily requires desktop work and so good computer skills is essential. Experience using AutoCAD would be beneficial but not required. It is expected you will have well-developed written, oral and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate confidently, clearly and precisely with a broad and varied audience. You will be a team player, but also self-sufficient, able to multitask and work with minimum supervision. You will have initiative, sound judgement and a confidence to work across all levels of the organisation and be able to form effective partnerships both internally and externally. You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
