Main Purpose of the Role

We currently have the following opportunity: Refuse Collection Driver.
Do you have a Cat C driving licence and a valid CPC and Digi Card? If the answer is yes, this could be the job for you. Perth & Kinross Council aims to work with the residents of the Perth & Kinross area to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill and offer recycling opportunities wherever possible.
As a LGV Driver you will provide an invaluable service to the residents of the area, ensuring that household waste is collected on a regular basis and taken to the appropriate locations. Your role will be to drive/operate any waste ejections/containment vehicles, e.g. refuse collection vehicles. You will collect various types of waste and recycling materials associated with the kerb side collection schemes, recycling centres and recycling points.
Compliance with Housing & Environment safe system of work for Waste Disposal and Refuse Collection is essential (copies available on request). In order to comply with Road Transport Regulations and to provide a continuous service over 7 days, shift patterns are in place. The shift pattern available is Friday to Monday 36 Hours. You will also be included in the standby rota and will be available to work additional hours, outside normal working hours. Some works are planned in advance but some may be unforeseen, in which case short term availability may be required at short notice.

Skills & Experience Required
To be successful, you must have a valid UK Cat C driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross. You will be aware of Road Transport Regulations, you will be able to carry out the physical demands of the job, and as a representative of the Council, you will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public as well as colleagues. You will bring a positive energy; have the ability to work well as part of a team.
You will have a full driving licence, enabling you to drive other vehicles, as necessary. You will be aware of Health & Safety legislation, you will have effective visual skills with the ability to ensure the safety of other road users and pedestrians, you will have the ability to carry out vehicle inspections, ensuring that your vehicle is safe to drive and meets all legal requirements. You will have the ability to operate a tachograph and to navigate in and around the Perth & Kinross area.
