Perth & Kinross Council is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Sessional Seasonal Visitor Rangers to help manage, protect and enhance some of the area's most valued countryside and greenspace locations. This is a temporary, highly visible, public facing role where you will play a key part in welcoming visitors, caring for the natural environment and promoting responsible access to the countryside. You will work closely with local communities, partner organisations and visitors to ensure sites are safe, well managed and enjoyable for everyone.

Sessional Seasonal Visitor Rangers are highly visible ambassadors for Perth & Kinross Council and help support local communities during periods of increased visitor pressure.

As a Visitor Ranger, your main duties will include:

  • Providing a friendly, informative and professional point of contact for visitors
  • Promoting responsible access and positive behaviour in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
  • Carrying out site patrols to monitor visitor activity, safety and environmental impact
  • Responding to incidents, enquiries and complaints in a calm and effective manner
  • Undertaking practical countryside management tasks including path maintenance, litter removal and minor repairs
  • Monitoring and recording site usage, issues and wildlife observations
  • Supporting events, guided activities and community engagement initiatives
  • Working with partner agencies and volunteers to support conservation and visitor management objectives
  • Assisting with signage, temporary measures and visitor management controls where required
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing reports using Council IT systems

This is a physically and emotionally demanding role, carried out outdoors in all weather conditions, requiring resilience, professionalism and sound judgement.

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for an excellent team player who understands the need to work collaboratively with colleagues across Perth & Kinross Council in addition to our external partners, recognising and valuing other people's strengths. You must be able to work on your own initiative in an organised and structured manner with minimal supervision and have a proven track record in delivering excellent customer service. You must be flexible, maintain a high level of attention to detail, and be able to multitask and prioritise your work. You will be able to identify and resolve problems independently at an early stage, offer solutions and work to a 'think yes' approach, putting the customer first. You should have a non-judgemental attitude, be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of our customers and always maintain confidentiality, in line with Data Protection. You should have the flexibility and adaptability to respond to the constantly changing world of work. As this role will have its challenges, it’s crucial that you are resilient to deal with these and any hurdles you may encounter, and that you have strength of character and are solution-focused to achieve the intended outcomes.

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and approachable individuals who:

  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Are confident communicating with the public in a calm and positive manner
  • Have an interest in the countryside, outdoor recreation or environmental protection
  • Can work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team
  • Are practical, adaptable and willing to learn

Previous Ranger or Countryside experience is beneficial but not essential, as training and support will be provided. You should have:

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Physical ability to work outdoors and undertake manual tasks
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays and variable hours through the summer period
  • Basic IT skills for recording information and completing reports
  • Awareness of health and safety responsibilities and equality, dignity and respect at work
