You will support the delivery of statutory building standards verification and enforcement functions in accordance with the Building (Scotland) Act 2003. This career graded post allows progression from Assistant Surveyor to Surveyor level, based on qualifications and experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a range of candidates, either starting a building standards career through to those with professional qualifications and considerable building standards experience. The role primarily involves the assessment of building warrant applications, and the inspection of ongoing construction works. Other duties include dealing with defective/dangerous buildings and temporary raised structures (e.g. event stages).
We operate a hybrid working system which includes home, site and office working; however, regular and at times extensive travel within the Perth and Kinross area will be necessary to carry out visits and attend meetings as required.
This post is offered as a career graded position, allowing progression from TAS7 to PR9, based on qualifications, experience, and professional competence:
- Entry level for candidates with minimum HNC in a building construction/surveying related subject together with considerable experience working within the property/construction industry or some experience working within a local government building standards environment. You will be able to carry out detailed site inspections with minimum supervision.
- RICS, CABE) together with considerable experience working within building standards on at least low to medium risk projects for both assessing design proposals and inspecting works.
- RICS, CABE) and significant building standards experience across both domestic and non-domestic projects of varying risk.
Training and Development: Participation in performance & development reviews and service improvement initiatives. A keen enthusiastic attitude together with an ability to show initiative and attention to detail is required to work within our very successful building standards team. The individual appointed will strive to achieve our corporate objectives including contributing to achieving targeted key performance outcomes. The right candidate will demonstrate customer focus in delivery of the Council's statutory Building Standards function.
Depending on experience you will have the ability to work on your own initiative and efficiently manage your workload, as well as working well as part of the team and with wider stakeholders. You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
