Main Purpose of the Role

You will be working as a teacher within the Intensive Support provision at Kinross High School. This is a vital role which delivers high-quality and personalised education to young people with a wide range of complex needs. Working closely with the Principal Teacher of Intensive Support, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that supports each learner’s wellbeing, growth, and progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Learning, Teaching & Curriculum
  • Using the Kinross Way, you will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning experiences tailored to the individual needs, strengths, and interests of young people with complex and varying needs.
  • Use a range of evidence based approaches to support communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and cognitive development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the whole school to ensure continuity, progression, and breadth of learning across the two Intensive Support classes.
  • Assess, track, and record learner progress using appropriate tools, ensuring next steps are clear, meaningful, and communicated effectively.
• Supporting Wellbeing
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and predictable environment grounded in a nurture-based practice approach.
  • Promote the wellbeing indicators (SHANARRI) and support young people to develop independence, confidence, and resilience.
  • Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support approaches to maintain a calm and supportive learning environment.
  • Work in partnership with families, carers, and multi-agency professionals to support holistic learner needs.
• Collaboration & Professional Contribution
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Teacher of Intensive Support to embed high-quality practice across the provision.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation, and improvement of the Intensive Support provision, particularly during the 2026 expansion.
  • Engage in professional learning that enhances your capacity to support learners with complex needs.
  • Model the school’s values, policies, and ethos at all times.

Skills & Experience Required

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive education and hold a firm belief that all young people can achieve and experience success. You will bring a solid understanding of how to support learners with complex additional support needs, including communication differences, sensory needs, neurodivergence, and social or emotional challenges. Strong communication skills—with learners, families and professional partners are crucial for ensuring that support is consistent, understood, and effectively coordinated. The role requires adaptability, creativity, and resilience, particularly when responding to dynamic learner needs or challenging situations. Effective planning, organisation, and teamwork will also be vital, as the teacher will work closely within a collaborative environment to meet the diverse needs of the young people. Reflective practice and a commitment to ongoing professional learning will ensure that the post-holder continues to grow in their role and contribute to the evolving needs of the Intensive Support provision. The successful applicant will be empathetic, patient, and calm under pressure, demonstrating the personal qualities required to support young people with diverse needs. You will be solutions-focused, proactive, and guided by strong values, ensuring their practice reflects compassion, equity, and inclusion at all times.
