Main Purpose of the Role

We are looking for two dedicated and enthusiastic teachers (each 0.5FTE) to join our dynamic and supportive team in our Intensive Support Service. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with significant social, emotional and behavioural needs.

Connections is a small, offsite intensive support service for children with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEBN).

\\n

At Connections, we believe that the above three values form the bedrock of our approach, upon which all our work is done. They provide the framework for every relationship and interaction within our organisation, enabling us to develop the most effective approaches in our aim to change the story for every child.

We do this through working in partnership with

  • The children's families.

  • Staff in their primary schools.
  • \\n

  • Support services. e.g. educational psychology, allied health services
  • \\n

\\n

Our service aims to provide two levels of support. The first is a shared educational placement for up to ten pupils where the children attend Connections for two or three days as well as accessing their school on the other days of the week. When the children attend their mainstream school, our team operate an outreach service where Connections staff collaborate with school staff to share and model strategies that support each child to develop and progress.

The second type of support is an outreach service to support a small number of children on outreach basis only.

Skills & Experience Required

The Person

\\n

We are looking to recruit two teachers who are motivated and skilled practitioners who will ideally have current experience in supporting children whose complex social and emotional needs are a barrier to their engagement in learning.

We are looking for teachers who:

  • Understand how early childhood trauma can impact on a child’s social and emotional development and their readiness to learn
  • \\n

  • Can form positive relationships with children who are hard to reach and disengaged with learning
  • \\n

  • Are child-centred and creative in their planning of learning and teaching in order to motivate and engage learners
  • \\n

  • Can use assessment effectively to plan for children who have complex needs
  • \\n

  • Can establish firm boundaries without being rigid
  • \\n

  • Understand the importance of play, sensory processing and multisensory approaches in teaching children with SEBN to regulate their behaviour and be ready to learn
  • \\n

  • Can self-regulate during times when children present with distressed and dysregulated behaviour and demonstrate attunement with the children
  • \\n

  • Understand the importance of self-care and wellbeing and how important this is for maintaining resilience
  • \\n

  • Demonstrate their dedication to their professional development
  • \\n

  • Willing to engage in the process of supervision
  • \\n

  • Value reflective practice and professional discussion
  • \\n

  • Open to trying innovative ideas and approaches
  • \\n

  • Have the confidence to collaborate with other practitioners in schools and to be part of a team in finding creative solutions to barriers to learning.

GTCS registration is required.
