Job Description

Main Purpose of the Role

This graduate apprenticeship role is a great way to gain industry experience and knowledge while also studying an undergraduate degree in cyber security.

\\n

The successful candidate will join the Information Security and Records Management team within Legal and Governance.

\\n

Working alongside the Information Security Manager and the Records and Information Security Officer, this role will assist the team to develop, maintain and monitor compliance with the Council's Information Management System, assist in the provision of advice to the council, support colleagues through data gathering and reporting, and assist colleagues throughout the council through helpdesk enquiries.

\\n

The role is varied to provide a range of experience and contribute to a secure posture for the council.  Your day might include:

\\n

* Working with IT engineers to improve the Council's security posture
* Assisting with audit and governance of policies, standards, processes and procedures
* Monitoring internal control systems and audit logs to ensure that appropriate information access levels are maintained
* Assisting the team in undertaking threat and risk assessments, security control reviews, security incident management and investigations
* Assisting in implementing measures to foster information security awareness within the Council and monitoring its effectiveness
* Undertaking team briefings and and presentations, providing written and oral progress and technical reports, and attend meetings as required.

The role will take into account the pressures of university study, and accommodate attendance at university on a regular basis and as required.

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a small team.  Much of the work will be individual and self-driven, but supported by the rest of the team.  You will need to be able to manage your time and priorities to balance your work and university study effectively.

You will have a significant amount of contact with a wide variety of people, including Council staff, elected members, and partners or suppliers.

\\n

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to relate to staff at all levels.

\\n

You must treat colleagues and those who require your advice in accordance with the Council's policies on equalities and dignity at work to provide a high level of customer service.

\\n

You will need to be able to work across multiple subject areas, liaising with teams throughout the council.

\\n

Given the nature of the job, you must be able to maintain the confidentiality of information and have a high degree of personal and professional integrity.

\\n

An interest in cybersecurity and/or information governance is essential.

\\n

A technical background would be helpful, but not required as this role will allow candidates with interest to train into cybersecurity and assumes no pre-requisite knowledge or experience.
