North Forr Depot, Crieff

Perth & Kinross Council aims to work with residents to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill and to offer recycling opportunities wherever possible.

The overall purpose of the role includes the day-to-day operation of the allocated vehicle, supervision of staff within activities under your control, and the collection and delivery of materials associated with the Council’s street sweeping, recycling centres and recycling points.

You will drive a range of vehicles, including Tipmasters with trailer, and operate associated ancillary equipment. When not driving, you will undertake ancillary duties relevant to Environment Service activities, such as refuse and litter collection.

You may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time depending on the requirement of the Service without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibilities entailed.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A valid UK driving licence and C1+E licence with full CPC is essential for this post.
  • In order to comply with Road Transport Regulations and to provide a continuous 7-day service, shift patterns apply. The hours for this post are Friday to Monday, 7.30am – 5pm (36 hours per week).
  • You will also be included in the Winter standby rota and will be available to work additional hours, outside normal working hours. Some works are planned in advance, but some may be unforeseen, in which case short term availability may be required at short notice.
  • You will be aware of Road Transport Regulations, you will be able to carry out the physical demands of the job, and as a representative of the Council, you will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public as well as colleagues.
  • You will have the ability to carry out vehicle checks and inspections, ensuring vehicles are safe, roadworthy and compliant with legal requirements.
  • You will be able to operate a tachograph, have good visual awareness, and ensure the safety of other road users and pedestrians. You will also be able to navigate effectively across the Perth & Kinross area and operate different vehicle types as required.

As Street Sweeper Driver:

  • You will bring a positive energy and have the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • You will have a full driving licence, enabling you to drive other vehicles as necessary.
  • You will be aware of Health & Safety legislation.
  • You will have effective visual skills, with the ability to ensure the safety of other road users and pedestrians.
  • You will have the ability to carry out vehicle inspections, ensuring that your vehicle is safe to drive and meets all legal requirements.
  • You will have the ability to operate a tachograph.
  • You will have the ability to navigate in and around the Perth & Kinross area.
