We are currently recruiting for a Casting Setter / Casting Straightener to join a well-established aerospace manufacturing environment in Worcester. This role sits after heat treatment in the casting process. Aluminium or magnesium castings can distort slightly during heat treatment, and the Setter is responsible for manually straightening and realigning components to bring them back within dimensional tolerance, ready for machining and final inspection. This is a hands-on, skilled manual role, ideal for someone with a traditional engineering background and strong mechanical aptitude rather than CNC or programming experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manually straightening castings after heat treatment using hammers, mallets, bars, rules, jigs, and fixtures
  • Interpreting basic engineering drawings, tolerances, and reference points
  • Checking straightness, flatness, and alignment using straight edges, rules, gauges, and basic measuring tools
  • Applying controlled force to avoid cracking or damaging castings
  • Working to strict aerospace quality standards and procedures
  • Identifying defects or non-conforming castings and escalating issues
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area
  • Working closely with heat treatment, inspection, and machining teams

Materials & Working Environment

  • Aluminium and/or magnesium aerospace castings
  • Workshop / foundry environment
  • Manual and physical role involving standing for long periods and handling metal components

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

  • Experience in a hands-on engineering, manufacturing, or foundry environment
  • Confidence using hand tools (hammers, mallets, straight edges, rules)
  • Strong hand–eye coordination
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances
  • High attention to detail and patience
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles

Desirable / Transferable Experience:

  • Casting, foundry, or heat treatment background
  • Aerospace, automotive, or heavy engineering experience
  • Fabrication, fitting, bench work, or toolmaking
  • Metal straightening, fettling, or dressing experience

This role particularly suits candidates with traditional engineering skills who take pride in precision manual work rather than CNC-focused operation. If you think you have the skills and experience required, apply today with your CV to be considered for this opportunity.
