Plymouth City Council is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Advisor to join the clients team on a 12-month temporary basis. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across council services, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice, support, and training on all aspects of health and safety.
- Support the Head of Health & Safety in developing and delivering the annual work plan.
- Monitor and communicate new legislation and guidance relevant to council operations.
- Investigate health and safety incidents, including serious incidents, and contribute to lessons learned.
- Deliver targeted interventions to improve safety outcomes and mitigate risk.
- Contribute to income generation in line with service level agreements.
- Support delivery of designated aspects of the Health & Safety business plan.
Performance Measures
- Protect the Council from health and safety litigation and claims.
- Contribute to award nominations and recognition for health and safety excellence.
- Demonstrate year-on-year improvements in staff wellbeing and safety culture.
- Deliver health and safety priorities aligned with service needs.
- Provide impact-driven contributions to the annual Health & Safety report.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Experience in incident investigation and risk management.
- Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- NEBOSH or equivalent qualification preferred.
