We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Year 1 Teacher with proven SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) experience to join a supportive primary setting in Colchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate teacher who is committed to inclusive practice and supporting pupils with additional emotional and behavioural needs. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated lessons within a KS1 curriculum, while creating a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment that enables all pupils to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, creative lessons aligned with the Year 1 National Curriculum
- Support pupils with SEMH needs, using positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches
- Create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
- Differentiate learning to meet a range of emotional, behavioural and academic needs
- Work closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, support staff and parents
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to support plans and reviews
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection at all times
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Has experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, either in mainstream or specialist settings
- Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, consistent approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Passionate about early years / KS1 education and inclusive practice
- Able to work collaboratively as part of a wider school team
