Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Day Shift – with Shift Cover)
Location: Witton, Birmingham
Salary: £45,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Exciting opportunity in a leading heavy industrial environment. Are you a hands-on, proactive Mechanical Maintenance Engineer looking for your next challenge in a dynamic industrial setting? This role offers a unique opportunity to grow within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, combining responsibilities typically found in both Mechanical Maintenance Technician and Annealing Engineer positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key point of contact for annealing operations, TPM activities, and contractor coordination.
- Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance across annealing lines and other production equipment.
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), TPM tasks, and respond quickly to breakdowns.
- Monitor, analyse, and improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimise operational disruption.
- Manage and mentor apprentices, supporting their technical development.
- Ensure spare parts availability and manage external contractors on site.
- Contribute to engineering projects, system upgrades, and new equipment installations.
- Promote and adhere to Health, Safety & Environmental standards, risk assessments, and SOPs.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Mechanical Engineer – NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC (HNC desirable).
- Experience: At least 3 years in a medium to heavy industrial maintenance role.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, fluid power systems, fabrication, and machine shop operations.
- Drawings: Competent in reading and interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- Desirable: Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Flexible to work independently and as part of a team, with the ability to provide 4 on / 4 off shift cover for holidays and sickness when needed.
Working Hours
Primarily Day Shift. Flexibility required to support the maintenance team with shift cover (4 on / 4 off) during absences.
