A well-established precision engineering lab in Worcester is looking for a Laboratory Technician to support its ongoing calibration and testing work. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and a keen interest in laboratory processes and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and calibrate hardness test blocks for Rockwell, Vickers, and Brinell standards
- Carry out routine checks on calibration tools and record equipment performance
- Pick and prepare steel, aluminium, and brass test blocks from raw material stock
- Move test blocks between workstations (calibration, engraving, packing)
- Operate hardness testing machines, record results accurately, and generate test certificates
- Use optical tools to assess indentation results and determine hardness values
- Laser engrave test blocks with necessary information (serial numbers, tolerances, etc.)
- Pack and ship test blocks with appropriate documentation and corrosion protection
- Maintain up-to-date records of all calibration activities and assist with KPI reporting
- Support laboratory standards in line with accreditation guidelines (UKAS scope)
Skills & Requirements:
- Experience operating Rockwell, Vickers, or Brinell testing equipment is highly desirable
- Good IT skills, particularly with spreadsheets and basic reporting
- Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities
- Familiarity with lab-based best practices and quality assurance processes
- Physically capable of handling and moving test blocks as needed
- Able to work independently and communicate effectively with internal teams
