Automotive Quality Shift Leader Location: Solihull Contract: Temporary to Permanent Shift Pattern: 3-Shift Rotation (AM / PM / Nights – weekly rotation) Pay Rate: £13.75–£16.00 per hour DOE (night shift uplift applies)
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Quality Shift Leader to lead containment and rework operations at a major OEM site. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will manage shift teams, maintain strict quality standards, and ensure uninterrupted customer production. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced automotive environments and sets the standard for quality and process compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and support shift teams and Team Leaders to ensure smooth, compliant containment operations
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver quality containment and rework projects on time and within budget
- Ensure only approved parts are released to production, protecting OEM build schedules
- Open, manage, and close containments using e-Apps
- Deliver site inductions and ensure ongoing training to inspection and rework standards
- Conduct layered audits, random checks, start-up audits, and zone conformance audits
- Collect and report shift data, customer documentation, and plant reports
- Maintain shift planning, staffing levels, PPE stock, and material flow
- Liaise directly with OEMs, customers, and suppliers
- Support customer complaint investigations and corrective actions
- Identify inefficiencies, reduce waste, and drive continuous improvement
- Perform inspection and rework activities when required
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets
- Previous experience in the automotive industry or a closely related field
- Proven supervisory or shift leadership experience
- Strong understanding of automotive production processes and quality standards
- Experience using inspection tools, measuring equipment, and quality systems
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems (desirable)
- Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and meet tight deadlines
- Full adherence to company SOPs, health and safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
- Full clean UK driving licence
