Tribunal Officer – SEND
Rate: £350–£450 per day
Location: Surrey
Working Pattern: Fully remote
Contract: Temporary
Pertemps is currently recruiting an experienced Tribunal Officer to support Surrey County Council within their SEND service.
The Role
You will lead and deliver the local authority service responsible for the identification, analysis, case management and review of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who are at risk of, or currently involved in, appeals with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST). The role includes representing Surrey County Council at tribunal hearings where required.
You will manage a complex and growing caseload of approximately 145–150 tribunal cases per year, with annual increases of around 5–7%, requiring strong organisation, legal understanding and collaborative working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on SEND tribunal case management from initial risk through to resolution
- Represent the local authority at appeal hearings when required
- Manage complex cases within a multi-disciplinary environment
- Work positively and collaboratively with county services and partner agencies
- Ensure effective use and development of SEN systems
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Proven experience working within tribunals or a legal framework
- Strong track record of managing complex cases
- Experience working within SEND services and SEN systems
- Car driver with a current, clean UK driving licence
