Maintenance Fitter
East Lothian
£17.78 per hour + 15–20% shift allowance (approx. £40,000 per annum)
Permanent, Full-Time
We’re recruiting for a Maintenance Fitter to join a large, well-established sawmill and timber processing facility in Humbie, East Lothian. If you have solid mechanical maintenance experience in sawmilling, timber, or heavy manufacturing, this is a great opportunity to join a company investing in its people and technology.
Shift Pattern
3-week rotation:
Days: 6am – 2pm
Backs: 2pm – 10pm
Nights: 10pm – 6am
Shift allowance: +15% for day/back, +20% for night.
40 hours per week (approx. £40,000 per annum).
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and overhaul sawmill production machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical and hydraulic faults quickly and safely.
- Undertake planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Replace motors, conveyors, belts, bearings, and other mechanical components.
- Support process improvements and efficiency projects.
- Record maintenance activities accurately using the site’s CMMS system.
- Work collaboratively with production teams to reduce downtime.
About You
- Fully qualified Mechanical Fitter (apprenticeship or equivalent).
- Experience in a sawmill, timber processing, or similar heavy mechanical industry is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of conveyors, saw lines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated machinery.
- Team player with good communication skills and a strong safety mindset.
- Reliable, flexible, and motivated to deliver quality maintenance work.
- Having a drivers licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial due to the location and shift pattern.
