This role is based in Ayrshire with some travel to the North East of England and the Midlands. An established engineering services business is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead and optimise service operations across multiple UK regions. This is a senior, hands-on role with real influence over service delivery, commercial performance, and team development.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of operational performance across geographically dispersed teams, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably, while continuously improving customer satisfaction and service capability.
The Role
- Leading day-to-day service operations across Scotland, the Midlands, the North East of England, and wider regions
- Planning and scheduling engineering resources to maximise utilisation and minimise downtime
- Managing service costs, margins, and job profitability
- Acting as a senior escalation point for key customers
- Developing, coaching, and supporting remote engineering and support teams
- Driving continuous improvement across systems, processes, and performance metrics
This role combines operational leadership, commercial control, and people management in a fast-paced technical environment.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in service management within an engineering, manufacturing, or technical services environment
- Strong multi-region workforce planning and scheduling capability, including managing travel, job complexity, and skill requirements
- Commercial confidence, with experience in job costing, budget control, margin management, and operational decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop remote, field-based teams, maintaining high standards despite geographic dispersion
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively under pressure
- Clear, confident communicator, able to manage customer relationships, resolve escalations, and align internal stakeholders
- Strong digital capability, including CRM/ERP systems, service planning tools, and performance reporting dashboards
- Background in engineering, manufacturing, or technical services is essential for this one
