With a commitment to operational excellence, compliance, and innovation, we are seeking an experienced and skilled Customs Freight & Export Specialist to join our team in Ayrshire. About the Role - As the Customs Freight & Export Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all customs laws, regulations, and best practices globally. You will play a critical role in managing and enhancing the company's customs compliance strategies, ensuring accurate documentation and efficient processes for cross-border trade.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the design and implementation of consistent processes across all EMEA locations for Customs clearance instructions, tariff coding and compliance with authorisations and for monitoring Bonded, End Use and Inward Processing goods.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to support Customs Duty audits across EMEA entities.
- Monitor regulatory and legislative changes.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of customs compliance processes and policies across the company’s global supply chain operations.
- Monitor and interpret changes in global customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements to ensure ongoing compliance and mitigate risks.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal teams, including logistics, procurement, and legal departments, on customs-related matters.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all necessary customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage relationships with customs authorities, third-party providers, and external consultants to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of any issues or audits.
- Conduct regular internal audits and compliance checks to ensure adherence to company policies and international trade laws.
- Develop and deliver training programs to internal stakeholders on customs compliance procedures, regulations, and best practices.
- Act as the company’s primary point of contact for customs compliance matters, including responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and leading any necessary dispute resolutions.
- Support the supply chain management team to optimize import/export processes and minimize customs duties and taxes.
- Track and report on customs compliance performance and provide regular updates to senior management.
- Extensive technical knowledge of international customs regulations, procedures, and trade compliance requirements (both EU and non-EU).
- Proven experience in customs compliance, within a global organisation.
- In-depth understanding of customs declarations, tariff classifications, duty calculation, and trade agreements (e.g., Incoterms, WTO, Free Trade Agreements).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficient in customs compliance software and tools (e.g., SAP, customs management systems).
- Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly and concisely to non-experts.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
