Suspension Technician – Automotive Manufacturing Dagenham, East London £38,456 per year 6:00am–2:00pm and 2:00pm–12:00am, with Fridays off for the afternoon shift Role Overview: The Suspension Technician is the technical expert within the Suspension area, providing skilled support for mechanical suspension activities. Acting as an internal trainer, the Technician ensures the technical competence of Operators and holds responsibility for approving work within the area. This role is crucial for maintaining product quality, safety, and efficiency in the build process. Key Responsibilities: Support the build process with skilled intervention when required, and coach/mentor colleagues to become multiskilled. Provide hands-on support during new product introductions, working closely with Engineering teams on prototypes and improvement build processes. Collaborate with Production Engineering to suggest, problem-solve, and implement improvements for more efficient production. Deliver skilled training to Operators to ensure technical competence. Verify the safety and compliance of components, including springs, shock absorbers, and alignment. Take technical approval responsibility for product release and sign-off. Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults in suspension systems, including air suspension, wheel balancing, and tracking. Promote best working practices and ensure adherence to SOPs. Suggest improvements to SOPs and collaborate with Engineering to implement changes. Complete production paperwork accurately and ensure Operators follow build verification processes. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and overall area safety. Perform any other reasonable duties in line with the remit of this role.Essential Skills & Experience: Motivated, diligent, proactive, and professional; able to prioritise and communicate progress effectively. Strong team player, working collaboratively and supporting a one-team ethos. Quality-focused, producing right-first-time work and continuously seeking improvements. Fully computer literate with ERP experience; skilled in wheel balancing and tracking systems. Previous relevant experience in automotive or similar industries. Qualifications: BTEC Level 3 in Engineering, Level 3 Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, or Level 3 IMI Electric Vehicle System Repair & Replacement. Experienced with various tooling, including torque wrenches, grinding tools, coils, and springs. Takes ownership and accountability for own work under pressure.Desirable Skills & Experience: Automotive or vehicle modification background. First Aid or Mental Health First Aid certification. Yellow Belt or HNC in Engineering. Train the Trainer qualification. IMI Suspension System Technology Certification. Previous experience with Epicor ERP system.Reporting & Relationships: Reports directly to the Team Leader. Works closely with Technical colleagues and the improvements team.
