Job Description
SEN Teaching Assistant (Core Subject Specialist) – PRU, Lewisham Location: Lewisham, South East London\\n Pay: £95 – £115 per day (depending on experience)\\n Contract: Full-time, long-term with potential to go permanent\\n Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people in alternative education settings?\\n Do you have strong subject knowledge in English, Maths, or Science and the ability to engage learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or behavioural challenges?\\n We are currently working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Lewisham that is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN TA to provide both academic and emotional support to students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.\\n Key Responsibilities:\\nSupport teaching and learning in core subjects such as English, Maths and Science.\\nDeliver 1:1 and small group interventions to re-engage students in their education.\\nImplement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.\\nWork closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.\\nBuild positive, trusting relationships to help students achieve both academic and personal goals.Requirements:\\nExperience working in a PRU, SEMH or alternative provision setting.\\nStrong knowledge of at least one core subject area.\\nExcellent communication, patience, and resilience when supporting challenging behaviour.\\nA calm, empathetic and consistent approach to managing behaviour.\\nEnhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).What’s on Offer:\\nCompetitive daily rates (£95–£115)\\nSupportive and collaborative team environment\\nOngoing CPD and training in behaviour management and SEMH support\\nThe chance to make a real impact on the lives of vulnerable young peopleIf you’re passionate about education and ready to use your academic strengths to support learners in a PRU setting, apply today to join this forward-thinking school in Lewisham
