About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and high needs in a primary school autism base in Lambeth. Working alongside the class teacher, SENCO, and wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering personalised learning, promoting communication and social skills, and supporting emotional regulation in a low-arousal, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs.
- Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and completing learning tasks.
- Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation using personalised strategies.
- Implement behaviour support plans and promote positive behaviour management.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, LSAs, and therapists to ensure consistent and high-quality support.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour.
- Support pupils during unstructured times such as play, lunch, and transitions.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism or complex SEN in a school setting.
- Understanding of strategies for supporting communication and sensory needs.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to follow guidance from the SENCO/teachers.
- Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable:
- Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification.
- Experience with PECS, Makaton, visual supports, or sensory strategies.
- Training in behaviour management or Team Teach.
- First aid qualification.
