We are a well-established accountancy firm providing professional financial services to a diverse portfolio of clients, including sole traders, limited companies, and subcontractors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Accounts Assistant to join our team.
The successful candidate will support the accounts team with day-to-day finance operations, focusing on the CIS scheme, subcontractor payments, and purchase ledger management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and a background in bookkeeping or accounts administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update the purchase ledger, processing invoices and ensuring timely payments.
- Assist in the processing of subcontractor payments, ensuring accurate deductions in line with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
- Verify subcontractor details and CIS registration status using HMRC online services.
- Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns and statements to HMRC and subcontractors.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in line with company procedures.
- Support the preparation of VAT returns, bank reconciliations, and month-end processes.
- Assist with ad hoc accounting duties as required by the team or practice manager.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills :
- Previous experience in a similar account\’s role, ideally within a practice or construction-related environment.
- Knowledge and experience of working with CIS and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of purchase ledger processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
