Pertemps Bristol Industrial are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (ECI) Engineer to join one of our clients based in BS21, Clevedon. Reporting to the Lead Controls Engineer, this role offers the opportunity to contribute from concept to commissioning across a variety of complex engineering projects, with an emphasis on best-practice design, compliance, and continuous improvement.
This role is suited to individuals who can lead technical efforts, influence stakeholders, and mentor junior engineers, while taking full ownership of their work within a collaborative and innovation-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities- Drive the design and development of control and instrumentation systems from initial concept through to field commissioning.
- Lead technical problem-solving, influence key stakeholders, and resolve engineering issues effectively.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety and industry standards (e.g. LVD, EMC, SIL).
- Contribute to system modularity and standardisation to optimise engineering efficiency.
- Provide technical input to ECI plans, manage priorities, and ensure timely delivery of work packages.
- Perform and support system testing, type testing, and validation activities.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices across the team.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including specifications, manuals, and test protocols.
- Support and lead software development environments and simulation-based testing initiatives.
Essential:
- HND or Degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation, or Software Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in controls and instrumentation within a relevant engineering sector.
- Strong background in PLC/HMI programming (e.g. ladder logic, structured text, VB.net).
- Proven experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus), PID loops, and creating technical documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of regulated industry standards such as EN/UL61010, EN60204, EN61326-1, EN 61508, and risk assessment methods (e.g. HAZOP, FMEA).
- Excellent problem-solving and influencing skills, with the ability to lead and inspire without direct authority.
- Effective communicator in English, both written and verbal.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with semiconductor industry standards (e.g. SEMI S2, SEMI S10).
- Experience in software development tools, simulation, and web technologies (e.g. HTML5, JavaScript, ASP).
- Exposure to dependability management standards and semiconductor fabrication processes.
- Willingness to travel to national and international sites as required.
