Part-Time Caretaker / Handyman Location: Taunton, Somerset Salary: £12.64 – £13.05 per hour Contract Type: Part-Time, Term-Time Only Working Hours: 15 – 20 hours per week (18:00 – 21:00, Monday to Friday – negotiable) About the Role We are looking for a reliable and proactive Caretaker / Handyman to join our school’s Estates Team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. This is a varied role, covering general maintenance, security, cleaning, and site safety. Key Responsibilities Secure the school buildings and grounds at the end of each day Carry out routine security checks and report maintenance issues Perform general maintenance, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and glazing Keep outdoor areas clean and tidy, including playgrounds, paths, and drains Respond to maintenance and repair requests from staff Undertake cleaning duties in specified areas, including emergency cleaning when required Maintain and replace light fittings within safe height limits Assist with sports lettings and site security in the absence of the Sports Development Officer Conduct routine minibus maintenance checks and, if able, drive vehicles for fuel, MOT, and servicing Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including risk assessments and manual handling procedures Support external hirers and ensure they follow school letting policies and safeguarding procedures What We’re Looking For Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role Strong DIY and handyman skills (basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, etc.) Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and manage tasks efficiently Good understanding of Health & Safety practices Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and external visitors A flexible and proactive approach to work A valid UK driving licence (preferred) What We Offer A supportive working environment in a friendly and welcoming school community Competitive hourly rate with regular working hours Opportunities for training and development School holidays off, allowing for a great work-life balance Access to school facilities during working hours For any further questions please call Pertemps Bridgwater (phone number removed) and ask to speak to Jess
