Pertemps are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering business for a Pipework Design Engineer to join their established team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced design professional to take ownership of delivering innovative pipework solutions across fire protection and water cooling projects.
About the Role
As a Pipework Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing detailed designs and technical drawings for pipework installations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. Working closely with sales, project, and operations teams, you will translate concepts into workable solutions that can be delivered efficiently on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend site and survey / measure for projects and new opportunities.
- Produce designs, drawings, and technical specifications for pipework projects (fire protection and cooling towers).
- Ensure all designs comply with LPCB, BS EN 12845, NFPA and HSE ACOP L8 regulations.
- Interpret client requirements, site surveys, and P&IDs to develop accurate solutions.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and contractors to support delivery.
- Provide technical input for tenders, quotations, and project proposals.
- Carry out design reviews, risk assessments, and ensure cost-effective solutions.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in pipework, mechanical design, or related engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, sprinkler tanks, or HVAC water systems.
- Proficient in CAD software and technical drawing.
- Ability to liaise with clients and contractors on technical matters.
- Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Pipefitting.
- CAD/Design-related qualifications essential.
- FIA or BAFSA training (desirable).
- Legionella awareness training (advantageous).
- Full UK driving licence.
