General Manager - Waste&Haulage in Sheffield

PS Ltd is seeking a dynamic and strategic General Manager - Waste Management & Haulage to lead our waste collection, disposal, and transportation operations. This pivotal role requires a passionate leader who can drive operational excellence, foster team development, and ensure sustainable practices across all facets of waste management and haulage services. This is a senior, hands-on position with responsibility for overseeing the company’s departmental managers, ensuring operations run efficiently and maintaining control of the administrative and financial processes that support the business. The successful candidate will be a confident and commercially aware manager who can bring different departments together, improve accountability and ensure customers receive a reliable and professional service. Up to £55k.

Duties:

• Oversee the daily operation of the business across transport, skip hire, waste operations, the yard and office functions.
• Manage, support and hold departmental managers accountable for performance.
• Ensure skip deliveries, collections and haulage operations are completed safely and efficiently.
• Monitor workloads, staffing levels, productivity and service standards.
• Oversee invoicing processes, ensuring work is recorded accurately and invoices are raised promptly.
• Monitor outstanding queries and work closely with the relevant teams to resolve invoicing or customer-account issues.
• Review operational and financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Ensure departments communicate effectively and work towards shared business objectives.
• Maintain high standards of customer service and resolve escalated customer issues.
• Ensure appropriate processes, procedures and records are maintained across the business.
• Support compliance with transport, waste-management, environmental and health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with directors, providing regular updates on performance, operational challenges and areas for improvement.
• Develop a positive, accountable and well-organised working environment.

Requirements:

• Proven supervisory experience in waste management or logistics industries with a track record of effective team leadership.
• Strong management skills with the ability to develop strategies, set goals, and drive results.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities that inspire teams, promote collaboration, and facilitate problem-solving.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in operational planning and compliance documentation.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on safety standards and customer satisfaction.
• Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and transportation laws is highly desirable.
