We're looking for an ambitious and commercially driven New Business Development Manager with proven experience in the industrial manufacturing and finishing sector to join an established business based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, with responsibility for developing new business across the UK.

With a £40,000–£50,000 basic salary and £80,000 OTE, this is an excellent opportunity for a confident B2B sales professional who knows how to identify opportunities, build relationships and, most importantly, win new business.

About the Role

As New Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities within the market. This is a genuine new business sales role, requiring a proactive approach to prospecting, relationship development and converting opportunities into profitable new accounts.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in industrial finishing sectors
  • Research new markets, growth areas, customers, products and services
  • Build and actively manage a strong new business sales pipeline
  • Identify key decision-makers and establish relationships with prospective customers
  • Arrange and conduct customer meetings, both face-to-face and remotely
  • Understand customer requirements and develop appropriate commercial solutions
  • Meet and exceed personal new business sales targets
  • Progress opportunities from initial contact through to successful conversion
  • Develop strong and lasting relationships with new customers
  • Identify opportunities for customer and product portfolio development
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and sales activity
  • Record customer visits and maintain a clear overview of pipeline activity
  • Gather and provide competitor and wider market intelligence
  • Maintain accurate customer information to support future marketing activity
  • Work closely with internal teams to successfully implement new business
  • Develop new accounts during the initial three-month period before handing them over to the relevant regional team

About You

You will be an experienced Business Development Manager, New Business Manager, Sales Manager, Technical Sales Manager or Industrial Sales professional with knowledge of manufacturing finishing or process. You will be confident identifying opportunities and approaching new customers, but equally comfortable building relationships and progressing those opportunities through to the point of sale.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The confidence to engage with decision-makers and senior contacts

  • Strong decision-making skills, including the ability to work under pressure
  • A proactive, self-motivated and target-driven approach
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using CRM systems
  • The determination and ability to close sales and convert opportunities into new business
