About the employer

The Employer is a lady living with her partner and infant son, in her family home in Ringstead, Kettering. She is a wheelchair user, she has cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

Main Duties

  • To assist the Employer to access the community, i.e. attending baby groups, visiting friends or family or going shopping etc. If the Employer is visiting friends/family, you may be asked to run errands for her whilst she visits (you will need to stay fully contactable, during this time, until the Employer is ready to be picked back up). All destinations are within the county of Northamptonshire.
  • You must therefore have a full driving licence and have access to a reliable car. The car must have enough seats to carry both the Employer and her son (ideally with Isofix capabilities for the baby seat, although it can be secured using seat belts) and have a big enough boot to transport her collapsible wheelchair. Business cover on your motor insurance policy is essential (proof will be required). Mileage will be paid, minus commute.
  • The Employer has a young baby, so you will need to assist her in putting her son in/and taking him out of his car seat, as required. The Employer may also request that you assist in lifting her son from chair to baby mat etc. Please note that any assistance with the baby must only be given when requested by the Employer.
  • Light household duties, i.e. vacuuming, mopping the floors, tidying the kitchen etc.
  • Preparation of hot drinks or snacks as wanted. Reheating a pre-made meal if the Employer requests, and also assistance with preparing food for the Employer’s son.
  • Any other task which the Employer may reasonably ask you to do which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.

Additional employment information

The successful applicant will be friendly, open-minded and non-judgemental. You must be able to give empathetic support, while respecting the Employer’s independence but also able to take instruction.

Must be flexible, trustworthy and with a good sense of humour.

The Employer has epilepsy and wears an epilepsy sensor-watch, which alerts her family members if she has a seizure. If a seizure does occur, then you will need to care for the baby in the time that it takes for the family to arrive. If this happens near the end of your shift you will need to stay on until help comes, to ensure the safety of the baby. You will be paid for the additional time accordingly.

Administration of medication may be required if the Employer does have a seizure. Full training will be given.

Previous experience of working with/knowledge of epilepsy is preferred/beneficial.

Please note an enhanced DBS check will be required to be completed and seen BEFORE you can commence work with the Employer. The cost of which is borne by the Employer.

The Employer has a domestic cat (no pet care involved).

Please note you will be directly employed by the person (or their representative) that you will be assisting. The Council is not the employer.

Sponsorship cannot be provided by individual employers. Your right to work in the UK must be confirmed already.
