Position: Self Employed Personal Assistant / PA Carer Support Worker
Job Reference: PC10/09/KE15
Hours: Starting at 14 hours a week, with the possibility of additional hours being available for holiday/sickness cover. Start time from around 12 noon but this can be flexible.
Availability: Your availability to work Tuesday to Friday is required, and also the ability to offer cover to other support workers. This is a permanent long term role.
Rate: £16.00 to £18.00 per hour dependent on experience
Area: Little Stanion (Corby NN18 Area)
About the Person: A contract to provide services is offered, to fulfil the duties of a Personal Assistant to a blind person to enable them to live as independently as possible. Therefore it is very important that you have very good verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Self‑employed and registered with HMRC, responsible for correctly reporting and paying income tax and national insurance contributions.
- Must live reasonably local to the work location.
- Reliable, caring, respectful, non‑judgmental and friendly; calm with a good sense of humour.
- Must be able to drive and comfortable around animals, especially an array of dogs and cats.
- Must have, or be willing to purchase, relevant liability insurance (proof required).
- Must have a DBS, or be willing to undertake one at your own cost.
- Must have further ID and valid references.
- Ideally experienced in the care field working directly in people’s homes.
- Resilient, observant, able to follow instructions, with good verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English, reliable and punctual.
Main Duties:
- Assist with the care of the guide dog and other pets, including help with walking, feeding and cleaning.
- Assist with the basic upkeep and tidying of the garden and outdoor areas.
- Help with all household tasks that require sighted assistance, including sewing, ironing and putting away laundry; cleaning and tidying within the house to maintain a habitable, safe environment.
- Help prepare meals, label food containers and organise them to aid a blind person.
- Provide sighted assistance with setting up and using various equipment and technology within the home and office.
- Assist with all written material, correspondence and completing forms where necessary.
- Guide and give verbal information to a blind person about the environment both indoors and out travelling.
- Drive client to and from events/venues, medical appointments, vet appointments and shopping trips.
- Assist with correspondence and other reading and writing tasks, such as reading information on food packaging, cleaning products, description of items and signage.
- Any other tasks reasonably asked of someone providing the services of a Personal Assistant.
Additional Information: PA support worker to assist a registered blind person to maintain their independence in and out of the home. Including assisting with the care of cats and dogs so you must be comfortable around many animals. The applicant must be a competent driver with a reliable car. Mileage expenses will be paid for these duties (excluding commute). Local knowledge and access to a SatNav are essential. Being comfortable around many animals is essential. It is important that the applicant can provide these services at times requested, when given reasonable notice, so a flexible approach is needed. As an Individual Employer, sponsorship cannot be provided. Therefore, your right to work in the UK must be already established. If you are shortlisted, the client will contact you directly, not PBSS.
