My client is a major exporter of ferrous metals, renowned for its commitment to sustainability and industry leadership. They are launching a new non-ferrous metal yard in Birmingham as part of their ongoing expansion plans. This facility will serve as a cornerstone of operations in the region, reinforcing our dedication to responsible recycling and resource management.
The Non-Ferrous Metal Buyer will play a pivotal role in establishing and driving buying operations at our new Birmingham yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing non-ferrous metals, developing robust sales pipelines, and building strong relationships with local organisations and suppliers. This position is instrumental to the success and growth of our new facility.
This is a remote role; however, travel to Birmingham/West Midlands will be required once per week, ideally we are interested in candidates who live within a 2 hour drive for example, Manchester, Oxford, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Nottingham, Sheffield etc.
Essential Skills & Experience:- Minimum 3 years of commercial buying experience focused on non-ferrous metals within the UK.
- Strong professional connections and networks in the local industry with the ability to bring tonnage in very quickly after starting the role.
- Ability to purchase from the public through established professional channels.
- Valid UK driver’s license and access to own vehicle.
- Proven ability to build sales pipelines and develop relationships with local organisations.
- Sound knowledge of non-ferrous metals, market pricing, and recycling yard operations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Previous sales experience is essential.
- Background working with competitors such as EMR or Sims.
- Experience in buying roles within the metal recycling sector.
- Lead the buying operations for non-ferrous metals at the Birmingham yard.
- Source material from commercial suppliers and the public via professional channels.
- Develop and maintain sales pipelines to ensure consistent supply and growth.
- Build and nurture relationships with local organisations, suppliers, and industry contacts.
- Monitor market trends and pricing for non-ferrous metals.
- Ensure compliance with recycling yard procedures and operational standards.
- Contribute to the overall success of the new facility through proactive engagement and strategic buying.
- £45,000 to £85,000 per annum basic salary (depending on experience).
- Commission Structure (in addition to base salary).
- Remote work up to 4 days per week.
