What is the role?
We are now looking to recruit a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join a busy Commercial Team. This role reports to Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor. However, line manager responsibility lies with the Commercial Manager. The purpose of the role is to be responsible for supporting Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors in their commercial management duties as well as developing with the view to becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor.
The role will include:
- Undertaking administrative duties to support the team
- Raising pre-agreed orders
- Reviewing subcontractor matrices
- Managing the simpler payment and simpler aspects of loading budgets
- To primarily share responsibility, support and learn from a Quantity Surveyor in the running of at least 3 sites of varying complexity whilst supporting in setting up budgets, producing bi-monthly valuations, tendering and appointing subcontractors and making subcontractor payments to maintain close cost control and enable management decisions
- Liaising with other departments on time to ensure sites run efficiently (Construction, Technical, Sales, Customer Care, Land & Accounts)
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group's Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team to promote safety in the way we build projects
What experience, qualifications and skills are we looking for?
- Previous construction surveying related experience would be desirable
- Full UK driving license is advantageous
- Experience within the house building industry is beneficial
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Fully conversant with Microsoft Package, including Excel and Word
