What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Co-Ordinator to join the Technical Team. This role reports to the Engineering Manager. The purpose of the role is to provide utility support and advice ensuring best value for the business.
What you’ll do as a Utilities Coordinator:
- Liaise with statutory undertakers and utility providers including electricity, gas, water, telecommunications, and drainage companies.
- Obtain and review utility drawings, service records, and asset information to identify existing infrastructure constraints.
- Arrange utility surveys and ensure accurate identification of existing services on site.
- Track the progress of utility designs, quotations, and works to ensure they align with project delivery programmes.
- Identify potential clashes between utilities and proposed construction works and coordinate appropriate solutions with design teams and contractors.
- Obtain quotations from approved multi-utility providers for the design and installation of utility infrastructure.
- Issue tender enquiries to multi-utility contractors in accordance with company procurement procedures.
- Carry out tender analysis of utility quotations, reviewing cost, programme, scope, and technical compliance to ensure value for money and suitability for the project.
- Prepare tender comparison reports and recommendations to support internal approvals and the Authority to Proceed (ATP) process.
- Coordinate with commercial, procurement, and project teams to ensure utility packages are procured and approved in line with company governance procedures.
- Attend project meetings and coordinate with contractors, engineers, and consultants regarding utility requirements and progress.
What experience do I need?
- Previous experience co-ordinating utilities within construction projects and possess an understanding of how scheme costs and asset values are built up in preparing information for quotes.
- Knowledge of utility connection processes.
- Ability to identify issues at the pre-development stage and then to review and challenge costs of utility offers to ensure they are fit for purpose and to minimise exposure to contract variations.
- Experience of preparing quotes for large scale housing developments, diversionary works, off-site reinforcement, easements and dealing with DNOs and GTs would be advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and utility plans.
- Strong organisational, coordination, and planning skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
