Description Overview

The Financial Accountant will play an important role in supporting the delivery of accurate and timely financial information across the North Europe Cluster. This is a varied and developing role, offering exposure to core accounting processes, internal controls, financial reporting, and the wider operations of a multinational finance environment. As the business evolves, the role will continue to grow and adapt in line with changing priorities and areas of focus, providing opportunities to broaden knowledge, build confidence, and contribute to improvements across finance. The position will involve working with a wide range of departments, countries, teams, and stakeholders, requiring flexibility, curiosity, strong communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships with different personalities and ways of working.

Scope of the Role

  • Financial Reporting & Close Support
    • Support the monthly close process, including preparation and review of Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet outputs.
    • Work closely with PBS during pre-close and close cycles, helping to ensure data completeness, timely issue resolution, and accurate reporting.
    • Prepare and review accruals and prepayments, ensuring calculations are accurate, supported, and aligned to business activity.
    • Support review of monthly results by investigating variances, explaining movements in key balances, and preparing commentary for review by the Financial Controller.
  • Balance Sheet Management & Analysis
    • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accounts are fully supported, accurate, and cleared on a timely basis.
    • Review and analyse balance sheet movements, identifying unusual items and escalating potential risks or opportunities to the Financial Controller.
    • Support the tracking and review of contingencies, provisions, and accruals, ensuring appropriate documentation and timely follow-up.
    • Support fixed asset accounting activities, including monitoring Assets Under Construction, ensuring timely capitalisation and depreciation, and assisting with impairment review preparation.
  • Controls, SOX & Governance
    • Execute, evidence, and document SOX controls, ensuring adherence to internal control requirements and company timelines.
    • Support the maintenance of strong financial governance by following company policies, procedures, and approval requirements.
    • Identify control issues, process gaps, or compliance risks and escalate appropriately with suggested actions where possible.
  • Statutory, Tax & Regulatory Support
    • Support the preparation of statutory reporting and filings, building knowledge of local reporting requirements while ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
    • Assist with tax and regulatory reporting requirements by preparing supporting schedules, reconciliations, and analysis where required.
    • Provide support for internal and external audits, including data preparation, query resolution, and follow-up of audit actions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Business Support
    • Work with colleagues across Finance, PBS, Tax, Legal, Supply Chain, Commercial, and other business functions to support accurate reporting, issue resolution, and delivery of finance priorities.
    • Build effective working relationships across countries and teams, adapting communication style to different stakeholders, cultures, and ways of working.
    • Support the Financial Controller with ad hoc analysis, queries, and business requests as priorities evolve.
    • Contribute to clear communication between local markets, shared service teams, and functional experts to help ensure alignment and timely resolution of open items.
  • Projects, Process Improvement & Learning
    • Support finance projects and process improvement initiatives, helping to simplify ways of working and strengthen reporting accuracy.
    • Take ownership of personal development by building technical accounting knowledge, systems capability, and understanding of company policies.
    • Develop confidence in using ERP systems, finance tools, and data to support analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
    • Seek feedback and apply learning to improve accuracy, efficiency, and contribution to the team.

Experience Required

  • Technical & Professional
    • Good understanding of accounting principles, applied to reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, reporting and analysis.
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate variances and explain movements clearly.
    • Good attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
    • Willingness to develop technical accounting knowledge and build confidence within a finance environment.
  • Experience & Qualifications
    • Degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
    • Studying towards, or interested in pursuing, a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
    • Previous experience in a finance, accounting, shared services, apprenticeship, or placement role would be advantageous.
  • Systems & Tools
    • Good Excel skills, including formulas, data organisation, lookups, pivot tables, and Power Query.
    • Experience using ERP or finance systems, such as SAP, Oracle, or similar, would be advantageous.
    • Comfortable working with data and learning new systems, reporting tools, and finance processes.
