Rate of pay: Β£42,500 + up to 15% bonus
Location: Thames Ditton, Surrey/London
The Opportunity
As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for managing payrolls from start to finish for a portfolio of clients within the accountancy practice. You will ensure the accurate processing of wages, salaries, statutory payments, pension contributions, and payroll deductions while maintaining compliance with HMRC requirements and payroll legislation. You will provide a reliable and responsive service to clients, building strong relationships, resolving payroll queries, and supporting continuous improvements to payroll processes and systems.
What you'll be doing:

  • Processing and calculating payrolls for a portfolio of over 250 clients, including basic pay, overtime, commissions, holiday pay, pension contributions, starters and leavers, statutory payments, and HMRC submissions through RTI.
  • Ensuring all statutory deductions and payments are calculated and processed accurately, such as SMP, SPP and SSP
  • Preparing and submitting pension contribution information to pension providers, ensuring compliance with auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Managing year-end payroll procedures, including issuing P60s, preparing payrolls for the new tax year, and completing all related year-end activities.
  • Supporting the onboarding of new payroll clients.
  • Liaising with HMRC regarding client payroll matters, including PAYE scheme registrations, payroll queries, PAYE/CIS refunds, and other compliance-related issues.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring all payroll activities are carried out in line with HMRC requirements, payroll legislation, and company procedures.
  • Preparation and submission of P11Ds, ensuring employee benefits and expenses are accurately reported to HMRC in line with current legislation and deadlines.

Role Requirements:

  • Min 3-5 years' experience processing payrolls in a payroll bureau, accountancy practice, or in-house payroll environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements, including PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, and auto-enrolment pensions.
  • Ability to manage a busy workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
  • Experience working within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment.
  • Payroll qualifications, such as CIPP Foundation Degree, Certificate in Payroll, or equivalent.
  • Experience dealing directly with HMRC and pension providers.
  • Knowledge of CIS and related payroll requirements.
