Group Company Accountant
Salary: Β£55k-60k (DOE)
Location: Molesey, Surrey
The opportunityWe are recruiting on behalf of an established, multi-entity organisation in the regulated care sector. They need a seasoned accountant to take ownership of the group's financial accounting and compliance. The role is practical and detail-focused. You will be in the numbers day to day, not simply reviewing other people's work.
You will report into senior finance leadership and work closely with the CEO.
What you'll be doing
Preparing statutory accounts and leading year-end processes
Consolidated and entity-level accounting across several legal entities
Managing inter-company balances, loans, recharges and reconciliations
Producing monthly management accounts
Balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining robust financial controls
Corporation Tax, VAT and VAT compliance
PAYE, payroll accounting and National Insurance liabilities
CIS accounting and returns where relevant
Handling HMRC queries, enquiries and correspondence
Meeting Companies House filing obligations
Preparing for audits and handling external auditor queries
Cash flow forecasting and financial reporting
Accruals, prepayments and fixed asset accounting
Tracing and correcting discrepancies in the ledgers
Contributing to budgets and financial planning
Keeping clear audit trails and well-organised records
Providing the Board with accurate, timely financial information
A genuinely hands-on positionYou'll be expected to do much of the work yourself, including:
Preparing and posting journals
Reviewing ledgers
Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
VAT preparation
Payroll and inter-company reconciliations
Building management accounts
Year-end schedules and audit working papers
Drafting HMRC correspondence
Finding and fixing accounting errors
This suits someone who likes getting to the bottom of the numbers rather than working purely at oversight level.
About you
At least 10 years' relevant accounting experience
Solid practical experience of company accounting within a group or multi-entity structure
Strong statutory accounts experience
Excellent inter-company accounting and reconciliation skills
Sound knowledge of UK taxation, VAT and PAYE, with working knowledge of CIS
Hands-on experience dealing with HMRC
Experience preparing accounts, supporting external audits and liaising directly with auditors
Good understanding of Companies House requirements
Strong management accounting and balance sheet control skills
A methodical approach to investigating and resolving discrepancies
Good command of accounting software and Excel
Confidence working with senior management, auditors, HMRC and external advisers
Background in care, another regulated sector or a complex multi-company environment is a bonus
QualificationsA recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, CA, FCCA or equivalent) is preferred. Candidates without one but with substantial experience and proven technical competence will also be considered.
The person we're after
Technically strong, accurate and methodical
Comfortable owning their work and working independently
Willing to question information that is unexplained or unsupported
Able to juggle multiple statutory deadlines
Comfortable in a regulated environment
Professional with Directors, auditors and regulators
Ready to raise financial or compliance concerns when needed
Records in this role must stand up to statutory, regulatory and audit scrutiny.
