The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be a key member of the Project Delivery team, responsible for the commercial management and contractual administration of assigned projects. Supporting Project Operational Leads, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will commercially lead complex large-scale projects or lead the commercial management of multiple smaller projects, with guidance and support from the Business Unit Commercial Lead. The purpose of this role is to understand, control and administer the contractual obligations and deliverables under the contract and ensure preparation and maintenance of all necessary project records to allow the effective financial and contractual control of the project.

Position Specific Accountabilities

  • Support the development of Commercial team members through knowledge sharing.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, consistent and timely commercial reporting across assigned projects.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of contractual obligations and deliverables (scope, programme, price, terms and conditions).
  • Undertake the timely preparation of documentation such as variations, applications for payment, subcontract administration (including valuations and payments) and necessary project records.
  • Ensure all variations and NCRs are identified, recorded and managed, such that recovery is secured from the client.
  • Coordinate the preparation of comprehensive / appropriate enquiries for the tendering of all services or significant product supplies required on a project.
  • Manage or support the tendering, award and administration of subcontractors in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure relevant contra charges are administered and appropriately tracked through a central tracker for the project.
  • Provide commercial guidance and support to the Project Team on all commercially relevant matters.
  • Maintain positive relations with any client or employers’ representative you may be required to work with.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required to secure extensions of time, recovery of loss and expense and any other remedy for delay under the appropriate contract.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is set up, maintained and submitted as required by both Group process and the contract.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • MRICS qualified or actively working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience in a variety of procurement models and contract forms, including JCT and NEC.

Authority & Decision Making

Subject to the Company’s Delegation of Authority framework, the Senior Quantity Surveyor may:

  • Approve project-related costs and interim payment applications within delegated authority limits.
  • Raise invoices and support the timely collection of payments from Clients and Main Contractors.
  • Process purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
  • Review and assess subcontractor payment applications and valuations.
  • Represent the company with customers, partners and clients.
