To assist in the leadership and people accountability responsibilities for the Rail London design team.

Role:

  • Has full responsibility for planning, mobilising, organising, delivering and reporting on all engineering aspects of our projects.
  • Requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of railway engineering.
  • Plans and develops engineering solutions in response to a wide range of technical problems.
  • Works under minimal supervision and is proactive.
  • Manages a group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.
  • Involvement in tendering for new work and providing technical leadership to our bidding process, and engaging with business development initiatives.
  • Manages multi-disciplinary design coordination including but not limited to Signalling, AC/DC Electrification, Track, Telecoms, Civils, Stations, Depots including M&E.
  • Defines project assurance procedures and plans including quality control and assurance in line with client and company processes.
  • Assures technical quality of deliverables – undertaking checks of design deliverables completed by members of the team in accordance with company procedures.
  • Can act in the capacity of a Contractor’s Engineering Manager.
  • Ensures timely delivery in accordance with design programmes.
  • Is commercially aware and astute in terms of scope, programme, quality and contractual obligations.
  • Reviews personal/team budgets and resourcing to achieve financial and programme targets.
  • Keeps up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate applies best practice within the team environment.
  • Assesses the competence and the appointment of responsible engineers and discipline leads.
  • Ensures that appointees are competent and able to undertake the workload required and have both understood and accepted their responsibilities.
  • Clearly identifies and documents the interfaces between all disciplines.
  • Be accountable for all specified design; specifically its ability to integrate with all other designs, and existing infrastructure, and its compliance with all applicable standards, legislation, contract requirements and specifications.
  • Approving all designs and ensuring completion of the acceptance process.
  • Implementation of a formal design integration process for all design documentation.
  • The emphasis will be on the delivery of projects to appropriate quality standards, whilst achieving excellence in technical quality and ensuring that an integrated multi-discipline engineering efficiency is achieved.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for the team.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost-effective work by others.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepares technical specification sections.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
