Permanent People are recruiting for a newly created Talent Researcher position within a large, high-profile international organisation.

This is not a traditional Talent Acquisition role focused on managing a portfolio of live vacancies.

Instead, you'll sit at the more strategic end of talent – researching markets, analysing competitors, mapping organisations and building proactive pipelines of high-calibre talent before a hiring need arises.

The preference is for someone who has developed this expertise within an In-house Talent Research, Talent Intelligence or strategic sourcing function, although we're also very open to researchers from high-quality executive search environments who would like to take their experience in-house.

The Role

You'll become an internal expert on the external talent landscape, using research, data and market intelligence to provide senior stakeholders with a much deeper understanding of the markets and organisations they recruit from.

Your work will include

  • Conducting detailed talent and market mapping across competitor and adjacent organisations.
  • Tracking competitor activity, industry trends, organisational changes and M&A activity to anticipate potential talent movements.
  • Researching how competitor businesses and individual functions are structured and identifying the strongest talent within them.
  • Building proactive pipelines of \"ready now\" and \"ready later\" candidates, rather than waiting for vacancies to arise.
  • Producing high-quality market intelligence and translating complex research and data into clear, useful insights.
  • Presenting research, insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders, becoming a trusted source of external talent intelligence.
  • Identifying passive and difficult-to-find talent through Linked In Recruiter, networking, Boolean search and broader research techniques.
  • Looking beyond obvious competitors to identify individuals with relevant and transferable experience.
  • Helping the organisation continue to develop its internal research and headhunting capability and reduce its reliance on external search firms.

The emphasis on competitor intelligence, talent mapping, long-listing and proactive sourcing is central to the position.

What We're Looking For

This role will suit someone who is genuinely research-led.

You'll enjoy understanding markets, spotting patterns and trends, analysing data and working out where the best talent sits.

Ideally, you'll bring

  • Experience within an In-house Talent Research, Talent Intelligence, Talent Insights or strategic sourcing role.
  • Alternatively, a strong research background within executive search, particularly where you've undertaken detailed market mapping and talent intelligence projects.
  • Excellent research and analytical capability, with the ability to turn large amounts of information into meaningful insight.
  • Strong experience of talent mapping, competitor analysis and proactive pipelining.
  • Confidence communicating complex research and presenting findings and recommendations to senior-level stakeholders.
  • Advanced Linked In Recruiter and wider sourcing/research skills.
  • A genuine interest in trends, data, organisational structures and understanding how and why talent moves.
  • A strong academic background, ideally including postgraduate study or a research-focused qualification such as a Master's degree, would be highly advantageous.
  • Previous experience within the media industry would be particularly interesting, although this isn't essential.

The ability to translate complex data and organisational structures into simple, useful information for stakeholders is particularly important.

Why Consider It?

What makes this opportunity different is that research is the job, rather than simply one part of the recruitment process.

You won't just be handed vacancies and asked to fill them.

You'll have the time and remit to understand markets properly, identify trends, map organisations and build long-term talent pipelines - giving senior stakeholders visibility of who they should know, where that talent currently sits and what is happening across their competitor landscape.

For someone already working within Talent Intelligence or Research in-house, it offers the opportunity to take that experience into a highly visible role within a major international organisation.

Equally, it could be an interesting move for an accomplished executive search researcher who enjoys the investigative and analytical side of search and would like to take that capability in-house.

If your background combines research, talent intelligence, data and proactive candidate identification, ideally gained within an in-house environment, I'd be very interested in speaking with you.
