We are assisting an exciting electronics and software-focused manufacturing business in their search for an Engineering Director to manage the design and development activity of a large team of design engineers!
To be successful in this role, it is necessary to have at least 15 years of experience in design engineering coupled with at least 5 years of experience in a senior/principal design engineer role taking the lead on the design of complex designs utilized within the electronics industry.
You will need to be a well-educated, highly technical, and analytical engineer with a design engineering background to assist your team when solving technical problems.
Additionally, this role offers the opportunity to manage a large and diverse multi-disciplined engineering team, so good people management skills are essential. You need to have managed a team of at least ten engineers focused on electronics and software development in a recent role.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design of new products and plan the engineering resources required for new projects as needed by the business.
- Direct engineering resources to produce new designs for a varied customer base.
- Liaise internally with sales, quality, production, and operations, and externally with key customers as part of the senior leadership team to ensure the timely and cost-effective completion of design and development projects.
- Handle multiple design projects to meet company deadlines and prioritize engineering resources.
- Utilize commercial acumen to facilitate involvement in bids and tenders, playing a key role in setting strategy for the company.
Your Skills and Abilities:
- Degree in Design/Engineering or equivalent (as a minimum) in Electronics/Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of industrial experience in a design engineering role.
- Highly technical engineer with an innovative approach to design.
- Good working knowledge of electronics incorporating Embedded Software.
- Experience in feasibility studies, advising commercial teams, and adding technical expertise to the sales function.
